About this talk:
Are prayer and healing for you? I mean, if you have no experience with spirituality or religion, or you’re not even sure what you think about God, can you still pray and be healed?
Yes. Because prayer and healing are natural to us, and I say this as one who didn’t even grow up in a religious household. But what I’ve discovered as I’ve studied Christian Science is that a willingness to shift perspectives, to see things in a new, more spiritual way, has an effect–for anyone.
Like in the case of an inmate I worked with. As I shared the basics of Christian Science with him he said it all sounded great but he was just a bad person. He seemed pretty convinced that healing wasn’t for him. But as we talked about the fact that he wasn’t defined by his past, but by God, his source, who is completely good, I could tell his thought about himself was changing.
And then he wanted more. So he took a copy of the Bible and Mary Baker Eddy’s book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, back to his cell and started to dive into these books. Six or seven weeks later, I ran into him again and he told me that he’d been healed of a serious illness–just from studying the Bible and Science and Health. His study helped him grasp God and his life in a new way and his disease was cured.
In my lecture, I’ll share more about the fundamentals of effective prayer, as I’ve learned from studying Christian Science, as well as how healing is truly possible for everyone.

About Janet Hegarty, CSB
I may not be an architect, but I know the value of a strong foundation. My life improved when I began building on new views of myself and my identity, which sprang from a better concept of God than I’d had before. This better concept of God brought healing changes to my life in a way that was deep and lasting.
Building this new foundation began when my mother-in-law introduced me to Christian Science. As I explored the ideas in the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, I began to get a very different view of God. Never before had I encountered the idea that God is not merely sometimes good or just a little bit good, but all good, only good, always. To think of God as pure goodness, and to discover that this same all-good God was the source of what I am and what everyone is without exception, was, to me, a new and life-changing way to think about existence.
These new ideas showed me the power of God, divine goodness, at work in all of our lives–providing solutions to challenges such as sickness, dishonesty, and career setbacks, which often seem like they can shake our foundation and connection to what’s good. This had a practical effect in my own life, bringing a quick healing of a long-standing food allergy. And, as time has gone on, this foundational understanding of God as pure good has transformed my life in many ways, including the healing of a serious illness and the restoration of my career.
I invite you to join me in discovering how you can establish your own strong foundation and experience the life-changing effects of building on this solid basis for yourself and the world.

Finding where God can be seen and felt – what’s church got to do with it? by Emra Farkas, CSB
Have you ever thought about God as goodness? And God’s creation, including you and everyone else, as a natural extension of that goodness? There is a direct connection between this foundational way of viewing the world and the idea of church. This lecture discusses the role of church—not just as a building or place, but as a new kind of thinking that reveals God’s goodness for you and everyone around you.
“A new kind of thinking is needed to recognize that God’s goodness and love are actually here and tangible to all humanity everywhere,” says Ms. Farkas. “The idea of ‘church’ can shift from being a physical building, a set time on a particular day, or an assembly of perfect humans (does that even exist??), to that of being what God builds in our lives every moment through us responding to Christ Jesus’ message of God’s all-powerful love.”
Sharing examples of healing from her own life and professional practice of Christian Science, Ms. Farkas will explain why Christian Science is both Christian and scientific, meaning that people can prove its effectiveness for themselves, as fully described in the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, written by the founder of the Christian Science movement, Mary Baker Eddy.
Ms. Farkas will also touch on the life of Mary Baker Eddy, who came to understand, confirm, and teach what she felt was original Christian healing. Eddy herself said she was especially inspired by Jesus’ demand, “He that believes on me, the works that I do will he do also; and greater works than these will he do, because I go unto my Father” (found in the Gospel of John 14:12 in the Bible).
For over 150 years, people around the world have worked to follow Christ Jesus in this practice of Christianity and continue to do so today, experiencing healings of physical ills and personal difficulties.
Emra Farkas has been a Christian Science practitioner for many years, helping people on a daily basis through this scientific approach to prayer. She travels from her home base in Santa Fe, New Mexico, to speak to audiences as a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship.

Is there anything that we can truly rely on? Finding a spiritual basis of trust enables us to turn to a divine presence whenever we need it. The love, goodness, and intelligence of God never change and are always available. The more we discover of God’s love and care for us, the more we can confidently turn to this divine presence and find our lives transformed and healed–and our families, communities, and the whole world benefit, too. Anyone can learn how to lean into God’s trustworthiness.
