An Interactive Bible Program in Austin, Texas

with Richard Davenport and Barry Huff

~~~~~
First Church of Christ, Scientist, Austin is hosting the
Winter 2018 Interactive Bible and Spiritual Life Program on February 9 and 10.
As in the past, these programs from BSL have proved to be very inspiring and have drawn people from all over Texas and beyond.
Richard Davenport:
Master of Divinity, Doctor of Ministry ABD Chaplain, LtCol, USAF (ret); Former Dean of Students at Principia College; Executive Director, Bible & Spiritual Life Community
Barry Huff:
Ph.D. in Biblical Studies; Religion & Philosophy Department Chair and Assistant Professor of Religion at Principia College; 2013 Principia College Teacher of the Year
What to expect:
This workshop will include deep dives into the Bible and the very best of contemporary scholarship and application of its biblical spirituality to the changes and challenges of our times. These will be reinforced by Spirit-filled songs from the heart that support transformative Bible study in compassionate community.
Friday night will explore biblical freedom from guilt, shame, and discouragement regarding what appear as unanswered prayers or unrealized healings. From Barry’s doctoral dissertation, you will meet your brother Job in a way you never have before and discover with Job new insights into God’s awe-inspiring grace.
Saturday morning will examine how the inspired Word functions throughout the Bible as a “sufficient guide” for countering and correcting more narrow, judgmental, and harsh passages, transforming thought and action, healing prejudice, cherishing the “other,” and proclaiming God’s infinite embrace. The implications for how and with whom we practice compassionate community are immense.
Lunch onsite will include table discussions of questions from the morning session with rotating groups so as to facilitate your own integration of the workshop themes to your own experience. Questions arising will be addressed in the first half hour of the afternoon session.
Saturday afternoon will offer fresh biblical perspectives on creation that inspire our prayers and care for ourselves, our communities, and our environment.  These are very helpful to our own demonstration of wellness and our greater effectiveness in joining the societal and generational conversations of today (and tomorrow) on spirituality, ethics, and religion.
Also, special music from Christian Science church soloist
and Los Angeles-based singer, pianist, and songwriter Lola Toben
