RevelationsThe Christian Science Sentinel online posted an article this week written by Clay Kaufman titled, How the book of Revelation guides us:

When I was introduced to Christian Science in high school, I always looked forward to attending Sunday School. I appreciated the discussions of Christ Jesus’ healings in the New Testament and learning about the ways in which the Old Testament prophets also proved God’s care and infinite power. I loved discovering how that power can still heal today.

Whenever the weekly Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly included passages from the book of Revelation, though, I admit I sometimes skimmed over those parts because I didn’t always grasp their relevance to healing. Over time, however, I began to realize that this book must be valuable. After all, Mary Baker Eddy, the author of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, includes an entire chapter on Revelation called “The Apocalypse” as part of the section titled “Key to the Scriptures.”…

OceanThe Christian Science Journal website published an article by Randal Craft this month titled, The five “ones”:

When a Hebrew religious leader asked Jesus, “Which is the first commandment of all?” he answered, “The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength” (Mark 12:28–30).

That statement emphatically conveyed the foundation of the Master’s ministry. The very basis of Jesus’ ability to heal the sick, raise the dead, and accomplish all his other marvelous works was his understanding of God, Spirit, as the one and only power…

LivingAn article was posted on the Christian Science Monitor website today, under A Christian Science Perspective by Sandra Balderston titled, Living in the now:

I had been praying for some time about an ache in my shinbones. During this time I phoned a Christian Science practitioner for metaphysical help with this and other problems. One day I complained to her that I was missing things that had previously been in my life, such as my children, friends, activities, and different places I had lived.

The practitioner pointed out that clinging to the past is human emotionalism that would weigh us down. We live in the now, she said. We don’t negate the good we have previously enjoyed, but we can’t let nostalgia color our present with a sense of loss. She emphasized that man (a term that includes every individual) is the complete and entirely spiritual reflection of God, and that this reflection is going on right now…

OrchidsThe Christian Science Journal website published an article by Daniel Lees this month titled, Handling chaos – A lesson from a vase:

You may have noticed a growing use of the term chaos in the news media. It denotes confusion, disorder, or unpredictability occurring in physical bodies, the body politic, or nature. All such states convey a disquieting, false sense of the absence of control by a single governing power, or Principle. In his poem “The Second Coming,” thought to depict anti-Christ, William Butler Yeats puts it this way: “Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold.”

In fact, the concept of chaos hails from nothingness itself. The first chapter of the Bible mentions a dark void (see Genesis 1:2). John Milton named that void Chaos in his epic poem Paradise Lost, and an early American dictionary defines chaos as “that confusion, or confused mass, in which matter is supposed to have existed, before it was separated into its different kinds and reduced to order, by the creating power of God” (Noah Webster, American Dictionary of the English Language, 1828). The generalized sense of the term, denoting disorder and confusion, is still common today.

Dive Into PrayerAn article was posted on the Christian Science Monitor website last week, under A Christian Science Perspective by Ovidio Trentini titled, Dive into prayer:

On summer days of intense heat, it is very easy to want to jump into a pool or a lake for a cool dip. A friend from Germany, a former lifeguard, told me that he and his son are always looking for a place to go swimming. He knows the art of diving into inviting waters very well.

He commented that when we enter the water, it occupies all the space around us, and we feel joy and happiness and a sense of well-being.

This friend is very focused on spiritual things, and, swept forward by the theme of our conversation, he commented that diving into water and being totally surrounded by it is like taking a deep dive in prayer to feel conscious of God’s presence…
