Julie Rugg is a retired math instructor. Don Rugg is a Certified Financial Planner and a retired CPA. Since 2013, they have volunteered with Financial Beginnings, a nonprofit that provides free personal finance education to youth and adults. Between the two of them, they have given hundreds of presentations on topics like Budgeting, Banking, Credit, Investing, Insurance, Careers, and Financing College. In 2018, they began doing presentations for the AICs at Deer Ridge Correctional Institution in Madras, Oregon. These classes became their favorite and they are looking forward to continuing these presentations as well as their new work as Assistant Volunteer Chaplains for CSCIS.

Mark’s lecture is titled: “Making meaningful change: How God’s love can change your life and the world.”

We live in a world where millions of people are striving to make change for the better. So, in a world seeking positive change, how do we make sure that such change actually happens?

Speaker Mark McCurties says, “We all have a natural desire to improve ourselves and the world around us. In my own life I’ve found that letting God, divine Love, guide and direct my efforts brings permanent and meaningful results.”

McCurties, a practitioner of Christian Science healing, will present a talk titled, “How God’s love can change your life and the world” on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at the Midtown Arts and Theater Center.

“The desire to change ourselves, to improve our character, our relationships, our life prospects can also go beyond just the boundary of our own lives and the four walls of our home. Many men and women around the world have a sincere yearning to improve the collective experience of mankind,” says McCurties. “In this lecture, I will explain how God’s loving and saving power is the greatest agent for change, and that through a right understanding of God, His power can be seen and felt right here and now, bringing health and peace to the world.”

The ideas in this lecture are based on the teachings of Jesus as recorded in the Bible, and as discussed in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy.

McCurties has had a life-long love of the Bible and its inspiring message of individual triumph over adversity. After graduating from college he spent a number of years in the field of education where he worked as a camp director, experiential educator, resident counselor, and athletics coach. While working with young people, he had many opportunities to witness the healing power of God, and these inspiring experiences
eventually led him into the full-time public practice of Christian Science.

Mark McCurties is a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship. He travels from his home in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

PRACTICING AN INSPIRED APPROACH TO BENEVOLENCE

Bruce Jeffrey is Executive Director at The Principle Foundation in Kansas City, Missouri, a nonprofit organization that offers modest grants to Christian Scientists in need of financial assistance. The Principle Foundation also administers the National Fund for Christian Science Nursing. In his time there, Bruce has worked with hundreds of Christian Scientists who find themselves needing financial assistance.

Bruce is a graduate of the Air Force Academy and has served as both a navigator on B-52’s and as an instructor at the Academy. His Masters degree is from the University of Wisconsin. He has worked as a manager, trainer, consultant and coach for leaders and executives in businesses small and large.

Bruce is a life-long Christian Scientist. At various times, he has served as Sunday School teacher, usher, Clerk, meeting leader, first and second Reader, and as a member of his Church’s Board.

She went on to become a teacher of Christian Science, and her love for communicating its healing rules and laws, coupled with her love for writing, enabled her to have over 1000 articles published in the Christian Science periodicals. Our film gives viewers an inside look at an individual who would become the longest serving editor of the Christian Science periodicals.
